A PLAIN GUIDE
Follow-up questions
Interviewing owners for website content
Ask the next question from what the owner already said.
Mark Kendrick interviews owners of San Bernardino Mountains businesses in small batches. He is based in Big Bear. The useful part is the follow-up, and the correction, not a longer form.
Stop repeating the questionnaire
Once an owner has already answered a point, the next interview should go deeper on that point or fill a hole that is still empty. A fresh copy of the same questions does not add a fact.
Here’s the deal. He writes the next batch from the notes already in hand.
Spoken answers count
The batch stays short so it can be answered by talking or by writing. The phone path collects knowledge-base answers. Email is where a longer explanation and photos can ride along.
He then sorts the material and marks any line where the transcription is unclear, so a muddy phrase is not published as if it were settled.
The phone system that collects those answers is described in how knowledge-base phone interviews fill your website.
A correction is the valuable part
An owner who fixes an AI draft teaches more than an owner who simply agrees. The fix shows what is particular to that business, or what the draft got wrong.
A question that nobody answered stays a gap. It is not permission to invent a personal experience and put it on the site.

One timed test, not a promise
A few focused answers can move a page forward without asking the owner for a long writing session.
One vacation-rental test covered six questions in about three and a half minutes. That clock time belongs to that test. It is not a length he guarantees for every interview.
What one specific answer can do
One answer that earned a place on a site: Cyndi uses 360-degree tours and YouTube videos so buyers can look at a property when they cannot be there in person. The page can then explain that process, instead of a generic line about customer service.

Talk the way you talk
Owners can speak in their ordinary way. An imperfect memory, or a point they are unsure about, can stay in the notes. He can clean up the wording and keep the meaning.
Keeping the questions in the same order makes the notes easier to review and easier to use on the page later.

Questions
Do I have to write the interview answers?
No. You can talk them. Writing works too. Photos and a longer explanation fit better in email.
How long will the interview take?
There is no promised length. One vacation-rental test of six questions ran about three and a half minutes. Yours can differ.
What if the draft does not sound like my business?
Correct it. A fix is more useful than agreeing with a draft that missed what is distinctive.
Will a blank answer be filled in for me?
No. An open question stays open until you answer it. A personal story is not invented to close the gap.
