A PLAIN GUIDE

A limited test, written down

Documenting AI answer visibility

Write down the check, then look for a pattern.

Big Bear Lake reflecting the pines and lakefront homes

Mark Kendrick wants AI checks kept as a log, not as a pile of screenshots. Kendrick Mountain Consulting is based in Big Bear and does this for San Bernardino Mountains businesses. A mention is not something he sells as a reserved spot.

Three questions, asked every time

The shift is away from collecting isolated mentions. Each saved check should help answer whether the reply was accurate, whether it cited the business, and whether that visibility lined up with inquiries that fit the work.

Why is this important. A name in an answer, a link to the site, and a customer who actually got in touch are three different events. The log should not mash them into one win.

What the October 16 sample showed

On October 16, a set of ten Google AI Mode checks named Kendrick Mountain Consulting twice. One was a question about marketing consulting in Running Springs. The other was a question about a website for cabin cleaning in Big Bear.

No personal reaction from that day was written down, so none is invented here. The sample is a limited test with a date on it. It is not a standing rank, and it does not show that one particular action caused those two names.

How a business prepares the pages those tools can read is in how to show up in AI answers.

Fields he would write down

A check worth keeping names the platform, the exact question, the date, the location context that mattered, the response, and the source links.

He would mark a mention of the business as different from a citation, and both of those as different from someone visiting the website. The same defined set of checks gets run again later, so one afternoon is not the whole record.

When the name is missing

When an answer left the firm out, the useful next step was to read the question and the sources the tool used.

A missing name can point to a content gap. It does not, by itself, prove the website has a technical fault. It also does not prove that some other business is preferred every time someone asks.

Not a placement you can buy

Replies can vary, and inclusion is not guaranteed. AEO here means clear, useful answers on a website that is technically sound. It is not offered as a special placement arrangement.

Screenshots and the source details behind them should be kept before anyone writes that sample up as a case study.

The service page for this work is AI search optimization.

How platform notes differ from ordinary analytics is in getting found in ChatGPT and other AI tools.

Questions

Does an AI mention mean the business ranks?

No. The October 16 sample is a limited test. It is not a permanent ranking and does not prove a cause.

What goes in the check log?

Platform, exact question, date, location context, response, and source links, plus whether it was a mention, a citation, or a visit.

If the tool skips my business, is the site broken?

Not necessarily. Look at the question and the sources. A gap in the content is one possibility. A technical fault is not automatic.

Is AEO a paid placement inside the answer?

No. It is clear answers on a sound website. Inclusion is not guaranteed, and it is not sold as a reserved spot.
